Welcome to my portfolio! I am James Patrick, a CAD Designer with a passion for transforming ideas into detailed, functional realities. I hold a degree in Product Design from Nottingham Trent University and bring a wealth of experience in 2D and 3D design, honed through diverse roles in industries ranging from transport to children's play areas and office environments.
My expertise lies in using advanced CAD software like SolidWorks and AutoCAD to develop comprehensive building plans, manage complex design projects, and deliver innovative solutions tailored to client needs.

SUTCLIFFE PLAY
PLAY AREA DESIGNER
In this role I worked alongside the area sales team to create site plans and costing estimates for children's play areas. I used AutoCAD to create the plans to scale and would often create 3D models of the proposed design using 3DS Max. The rendered visuals of the play areas would be used to create a presentation using Adobe InDesign.
DESIGN MANAGER
I currently work within a small team who specialise in the design and installation of efficient working environments. I work with clients to design a variety of spaces to fit their needs, from new and refurbished office spaces to storage solutions. Whilst the core of my role is designing solutions for working spaces, costing projects and producing CAD drawings, I have been required to undertake significant involvement with project management, supporting the team and our contractors by placing orders as well as managing work-flows on site.

OUTWOODS ENGINEERING
CAD DESIGNER
This was a design role where I was tasked with making 3D models of bespoke trailer chassis using Solidworks. My role also involved the creation of models based on historic drawings to demonstrate ways to reduce design timescales. For this I made use of the weldments tool, which also helped when producing material cut lists and 2D drawings for the fabricators to work from. Other areas outside my specified job role which I undertook included photography, website design and managing social media interaction for the business. The business was unable to support the design team function as a result of the pandemic.

KITRONIK
NTU INDUSTRY PLACEMENT:
PRODUCT DESIGNER
A 13 month placement working as the sole Product Designer at Kitronik Development team. I helped to design and develop a number of products from conception through to production whilst also creating promotional pieces for trade shows and events. I used laser cutting, 3D printing and basic crafts to create models and prototypes. I worked with clients, manufacturers and schools to create products and resources to assist Kitronik in growing its 'electronics within education' platform.
